No miremos los Juegos Olímpicos por la TV, como protesta cívica por la falta de respeto por los derechos humanos en China

 

El 90% de las ejecuciones por pena de muerte en todo el mundo se producen en la República Popular China. Informe d'A.I.   Amnistía detalla las ejecuciones en el mundo, llama a actuar Reuters - martes, 15 de abril, 07.23LONDRES (Reuters) - Al menos 24 personas fueron ejecutadas por semana oficialmente el año pasado y otras 64 fueron sentenciadas a muerte, dijo el martes Amnistía Internacional (AI) en un informe, agregando que ésta era posiblemente una estimación a la baja En el anfitrión olímpico China, donde las ejecuciones son un secreto de estado, el grupo de derechos humanos dijo que había determinado que al menos 470 personas fueron ejecutadas -el equivalente a nueve por semana- y unas 1.860 adicionales, ó 35 por semana, fueron condenadas a muerte. Las cifras convierten a China en el Estado más prolífico ejecutor del mundo, dijo la entidad. "El uso en secreto de la pena de muerte debería detenerse: el velo de secreto que rodea esta práctica debería ser retirado", indicó el grupo. "Muchos gobiernos sostienen que las ejecuciones se realizan con respaldo público. Por tanto la gente tiene derecho a saber lo que se está haciendo en su nombre", agregó AI. En total, al menos 1.252 personas fueron ejecutadas en 24 países el año pasado y 3.347 fueron condenadas a muerte en 51 países, dijo el grupo, agregando que unas 27.500 personas están esperando ser ejecutadas en el mundo. Después de China estuvo Irán con 317 ejecuciones, seguido por Arabia Saudí con 143, Pakistán con 135 y Estados Unidos con 42. Entre ellos, los cinco países representaron el 88 por ciento de todas las ejecuciones conocidas. Amnistía Internacional dijo que las cifras totales habían aumentado desde 2006 en Irán, Arabia Saudí y Pakistán. El grupo destacó que en diciembre de 2007 la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas aprobó por una amplia mayoría una resolución que llama a poner fin a la pena de muerte. "Cuando un estado quita la vida es uno de los actos más drásticos que puede realizar un gobierno. Estamos instando a todos los gobiernos a seguir los compromisos asumidos en la ONU y a abolir la pena de muerte de una vez y para siempre", dijo Amnistía.*.   +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++   Use your TV to protest. Actually (to simplify a bit ;-), the world is now ruled by TV power (the economy wich comes from advertising and all the possible uses of propaganda that everybody is doing with it). I really think that one of the most important fact of the next olympic games will be "the audience" (I hope it's a good translation. . i'm not sure of it). Beside of all the sponsoring effect that a small audience could bring, I think that if people just try to not watch TV (just during the opening ceremony), it could be a strong message to everybody, not just the chinese government, but to all politic leaders.
